The ongoing work Gustoniai is named after a village in northern Lithuania. Every three years Ziūra asks every person living there to give one minute of attention to video camera. These portraits are spliced together into a film that lasts about one hour.

Since the beginning of the project nine such films have been created, in 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025. They document rural Lithuania unfolding over time – people dying and being born, moving out, returning or moving in for the first time. They also depict social and economic changes in the village and the advent of global consumer culture. At the same time, they document the evolution of video technology, offering insight into how the continuously increasing image resolution of the video medium affects our visual perception and understanding of portraiture.

Single video films from the Gustoniai project were presented at Manifesta 5 in Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain, in 2024 and in other group exhibitions, as well as in the solo exhibitions “Other Voices, Other Rooms” at gallery Magazzino d’Arte Moderna in Rome and “Collection” at gallery Antje Wachs in Berlin.

A synchronised installation of six films was shown in the group exhibition “A Temporary Futures Institute” at M HKA, the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, in 2017 (curated by Anders Kreuger and Maya Van Leemput ).

A synchronised installation of eight films was shown Ziüra’s solo exhibition “Portraits” at the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius in 2022–23 (curated by Anders Kreuger).
